Safety & Security

Airport safety and security is generally treated as restricted information, therefore, it will be discussed in general terms here.

At each airport a basic level of security is required under normal operating conditions. In addition there are measures and procedures which will be required during peak periods of heightened tension. Security measures should be implemented in such a way as will cause a minimum of interference with, or delay passengers, crew, baggage, cargo and mail.

The following areas within an airport require security consideration:

  • Passenger building
  • VIP lounges
  • Visitors observation areas
  • Airport emergency operations
  • Public storage lockers
  • Baggage handling facilities
  • Cargo handling facilities
  • Airport roads
  • Fencing
  • Parking areas
  • Explosives holding areas
