Introduction

The Department of Transport recognises the multi-discipline and multi-functional nature of road traffic management. In its holistic approach, the Department applies engineering, education, enforcement and evaluation principles and practices in co-operation with the NDoT, local authorities and other role-players. The development, implementation and control of business plans, operational plans, budgets and resource plans are regarded as an integral part of the strategy.  

The Department addresses road traffic safety as part of the holistic approach to road traffic management integrating programmes, projects and priorities. The Department also supports national and international co-ordinated traffic management policies and will continue to address all of the following:
